The Story, Act II Click Play to learn more about The Story and who it will focus on this week.
So often we view life as what will one day be. Soon I'll have enough money for . . . if only I had enough time to . . . when I move to . . then I will . . . We spend so much time thinking about what could be, and what isn't, that we miss what is. Life is a journey. It is a process. Our journey is filled with adventure, boredom, tragedy - it is a story finding its way through life. Every church has its own journey. Our journey is painted with texture. Hopefully, you will get a feel for who we are as a community by navigating this site. Please let us know if there is a way we can serve you. Embracing the journey. ~ Jamie George
PiecesThe following is a supplement, or "deleted scene" from our Pastor's message in our previous Gathering.
Boaz redeeming Ruth is a picture of Jesus redemption for us. When we place ourselves vulnerably at His feet, when we offer ourselves in complete humility, we find salvation. II Chronicles 16:9 "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him." I love what CJ Mahaney says about this passage, he says, that while God is aware of everything, he’s also searching for something in particular, something that acts like a magnet to capture his attention and invite his active involvement. God is decisively drawn to humility. Isaiah 66:2 "This is the one to whom I look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word." We have done the experience of salvation an injustice when we paint it just as a legal exchange. Substitutionary Atonement, is the theological term we use for what Jesus did on the cross for sinners. Jesus paid the price of death as a substitute for those guilty of sin. The guilty - all of humanity. This is true certainly, and significantly. But we cannot stop there. This sacrificial act of the Son of God was, at it’s core, an act of submission. Jesus submitted to the Father’s will, and gave up His God power so that He could, in fact, die. The relational circuit is only closed when we do the same. We are only reconciled to God when we surrender our lives to God the Father’s will. As Paul Young says it, When we kill our independence. –The Shack When we remove ourselves as the center-piece, the primary character of the story, when we, in humility, give our agenda away, we begin the journey of discovering God’s agenda for us, His design. _____________________________________________________________ You may find the following book a helpful resource in your ongoing faith exploration. You will not notice a change in your immediate suroundings, much less in this world, until you begin the process of changing yourself. How? "Through observation. Through understanding. With no interference or judgement on your part. Because what you judge you cannot understand." In a world of disillusion, labels, assumptions and opinions that only prompt conclusions, not life-change, De Mello calls us to one thing: Wake up!... "Would you rather act and not be aware of your actions, talk and not be aware of your words? Listen to people and not be aware of what you're hearing, or see things and not be aware of what you are looking at? The great Socrates said, 'The unaware life is not worth living.' That's a self-evident truth." Reality does not exist within formulas and systems, although they have their place, it is in the world all around us. ![]() ![]()
